About Venice and my day
So Venice is only 3 hours by train and like $40 so now I'm just working on things like where to stay and when to go etc. But maybe Venice next weekend and today on my day off I wandered a lot. I got some more photos of Milan. I will tell I did refrain from taking a picture of the lime green and purple mo hawk I saw today. It was disturbing and impressive. And I took another ton of pictures of Duomo. It is so amazing I think I could take thousands of pictures and still not know what all of it looks like. Also the guy came today and approved the plan to add doors to my room, this means that maybe two or three weeks from now I will have a room with doors. Yay progress.

I hope you are feeling better. You must be, I have your cold now!
Love you,
Linda
Venice is the perfect city to just wander around. The tourists will be in two places: the Rialto Bridge and San Marco. You should definitely see both of these (esp. San Marco--give yourself several hours to take it all in. And be sure to pay the extra euro or two to see the Pala D'Oro. I gave you my guidebook, right?) Be sure to wander outside the tourists zone to really see the city. Take the water bus ("vaporetto") along the Grand Canal (the gondolas are a waste of money). There are lots of other churches to visit, and the Venice Biennale may still be open to visit in the Giardini part of the city. There is a Hostelling International youth hostel on Guidecca Island.
If you have time, take the water bus to Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Murano has a lot of glass factories and Burano is known for its lacework fabrics. Both of these islands are like small Venices without all of the crowds. Torcello has some beautiful old Byzantine churches with mosaics and frescoes. Note that the vaporetto ride to these places can take up to an hour from Venice (Torcello is the farthest away). Also, if you are feeling beachy, you can go over to Lido and walk on the beach.
Have fun!
Man, I want to go to Italy with Joe!
You're right you wanna go to Italy with me!
My suggestion is to also try to go the other way. According to the map the Cinque Terre seem to be the same distance from Milan as Venice. The five towns Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso are beautiful. If taking a weekend jaunt you can get a place to stay in one of the towns and either hike or ride the train between the towns. I think a train pass between the towns is 5 Euro for a full weekend (ride as many times as you want). Each of the towns have their own charm. You will get a good view of old Italy with beautiful views of the coast and the ocean.
This trip would be more about small towns and beautiful views and less about museums and historical sites. Might be a good idea if you are looking to see beautiful country sides and get a little bit of fresh air and exercise. Since we celebrated our anniversary in Riomaggiore we are partial to it, but each of the towns has a reason to visit. Vernazza has the most beautiful views and i think Monterosso is the "beach" town. Email me if you want more specifics and i will dig up photos and such.
